For this discussion, we are going to examine several roles and developmental tasks highlighted in Chapter 12 of your textbook on midlife. You will rely on information from Chapter 12, as well as in the following article:

Answer the following questions:
1. To start this question, provide a brief summary of Erikson’s seventh stage of psychosocial development, Generativity versus Stagnation. Then select a person from your community, country or from the world at large, whom you think highlights successful progression through this stage, meaning, they have developed generativity. Remember the typical age range of someone in this stage when choosing your exemplar! CHOOSE SOMEONE OUTSIDE YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY, NOT A RELATION TO YOU to talk about. Explain how this person shows generativity.
2. Describe the two different types of happiness described in your book: hedonic happiness, and eudaimonic happiness and give an example of each. How does generativity (from previous question) relate to long-term happiness?
3. Chapter 12 outlines several topics relating to grandparents. Review the information in your book about the role of grandparenting. Reflect on your experience (or a friend’s) and choose at least two topics related to grandparenting from the book that you have observed in your own (or a friend’s) relationship with their grandparents. Possible topics include being the “family watchdog,” cultural differences in grandparent roles, levels of grandparent involvement, role conflicts, caregiving grandparents, and what happens to the grandparenting role when divorces occur. Make the connection between the research on grandparenting roles, and how this is reflected in your own life.
