By Day 4

Post your constructive review of one colleague’s post from Week 3. What did your colleague do well in terms of scholarly writing? How is your colleague’s scholarly voice conveyed? Provide specific examples of what you see in your colleague’s work. What recommendations or tips do you have based on the APA and scholarly writing resources provided? Be sure to select a colleague who does not yet have a review of their work.

By Day 6

Respond to at least one student who has provided feedback on your writing. You may ask questions to clarify feedback, share an example revision based on your colleague’s review, or discuss a topic that came up during their review.

RE: Discussion – Week 3
COLLAPSE

It is my passion and aspiration to work within the special needs community to provide opportunities for employment and independence to adults with disabilities. I look to improve my knowledge and skills to ensure services are provided to improve the quality of life for this population. In my commitment to provide excellent services, utilizing techniques proven successful is beneficial to improving services. Chancey et al. published a study in 2019 that detailed the positive effects of a provider’s mindfulness skills when interacting with clients who had previously exhibited challenging behaviors. The use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and similar techniques led to positive interactions between service provider and service user. Additionally, it contributed to overall quality of life for the service users (Chancey et al.).
To begin my search, the area of study was utilized as keywords: human services, adults with disabilities, employment. To focus my search terms, I included advanced options to the assigned scope of five years and limited the search to find full text and peer reviewed scholarly journals.
In refining search results, I found it easier and quicker to obtain resources specific to my needs for the assignment. Conversely, utilizing the advanced search feature eliminated resources that may have had information valuable to my research. This proves to be a double-edge sword in some instances. Lastly, I did not limit my search to a specific database as it severely stunted the results and returned no results with some terms.
Finding this article and a few others provided enriched knowledge of challenges and techniques in working with adults with disabilities. The studies I found support my concerns for the population of adults with disabilities. Furthermore, the literature elaborates on positive changes and growth in the field. The article referenced above is beneficial to becoming a stronger human services professional practitioner because, in addition to explaining the study’s positive outcomes, the authors included the workshops used to train service providers. In the future, I will be able to utilize the workshops to enhance my skills. Additionally, in a leadership roll, I will be able to utilize the workshops as a training tool.
