Wilmington University Field Interview Expatriate Nurse Discussion

The field study will promote awareness of the cultural diversity found with our own communities. Each student will participate in a cultural “field study”. Some examples of areas for the field study may include, attending a culturally diverse event, interviewing someone that is a first generation immigrant to the United States, interviewing someone with a different cultural background, or attending a cultural celebration.

The concept of diversity encompasses accceptance and respect. it means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. these can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained with each individual.
