Seven Forms of Waste
Question: There are 7 Forms of Waste (see above). Please pick one, connect it to a service and come up with a solution to eliminate the waste.
Response Posts: please go beyond “I agree” or “Great answer”; respectfully challenge one another’s assumptions, just as you would in a traditional class. Explain where you disagree, ask questions, make suggestions for improvement and discuss why you feel the way you do. Your responses to other students‘ posts should be comprehensive and provide a substantive contribution to our discussion. In addition, be mindful of distributing response evenly to all in the class. If you notice that a particular post has adequate responses, please respond to another peer. For reply posting, citations are optional. Write in paragraphs please. If you could do these as soon as possible. Thanks bud.

Week 6 Discussion 1
Fox 5 Atlanta reported on November 16, 2022, that Amazon begins mass layoffs among its corporate workforce, effective beginning January 17, 2023. Amazon notified the regional authorities In California that they would layoff about 260 workers at various facilities that employ data scientists, software engineers and other corporate workers. Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos from his Garage in Bellevue, Washington on July 5, 1994. Amazon is the world’s largest ecommerce company that provides customers with lower prices, better selection, and convenience. One of the seven forms of waste is Overproduction.
Amazon has a lot of manufacturing warehouses that employ more than 1.5 million workers globally. Amazon should incorporate the Market pull method. So that the warehouse can have what the customers demand and not excess. The Four Principles of Lean Management are 1) Pull 2) One Piece Flow 3) Takt 4) Zero Defects. I understand that companies have a quarterly goal to reach. So, to not cut people jobs/layoff cut out overtime, don’t over hire, and train employees to do their job to implement zero defects.

discussion week 6
Waiting time has long been a thorn in customers’ sides. More often than not, this happens in grocery and retail storefronts. With quality being one of the four key objectives of operations, along with cost, flexibility, and delivery, it should not come as a surprise why minimizing customer wait times at these outlets should be at the forefront of focus (Goldstein & Schroeder, 2021). This is a criteria of quality management, which will not be overlooked if customer satisfaction is to be attained. Primarily, we can look toward the availability of checkout associates as a possible root cause.
Consequently, the service solution that should look to be applied here is reducing a waste of employee resources and boosting reliability of those resources. Stores within the service chain that do not have the sufficient number of associates to meet the consumer demand at all times should be concentrating on fulfilling necessary schedules of cash register check-out employees each week. Since the inefficiency of operators and machine wait times or waiting for parts is not much of an issue in this arena, focus will be strictly limited to speeding up the check-out wait times.
Data that will be used to aid management in proper scheduling of associates is average number of customers in the stores over a period of 90 days. Therefore, a commitment of 1 register associate for every 3 customers will be tested for sufficiency and the number will be readjusted as necessary. Lines that are allocated for lower amount items, such as 10 items or less, will be implemented as soon as possible with the minimum amount available being determined by the square foot of the store.
