Walden University Traumatic Brain Injury Paper
Description
The public perception of adults suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and experiencing depression, and anxiety, is drastically underrated and overlooked. People do not perceive hitting their head in an automobile accident or a fall as a traumatic brain injury. People who suffer from bullying, abuse, harassment do not acknowledge this as a traumatic brain injury. Both of which can create depression and anxiety that can make disability. Bombardier et al. (2010) report traumatic brain injury as the major cause of disability in the United States.
Theory or Conceptual Framework: The conceptual framework is based on the hypothesis that adults with traumatic brain injury experience depression and anxiety more significantly than those without a traumatic brain injury. Based on this hypothesis, one of the most common conditions after traumatic brain injury is depression (Juengst, Kumar, & Wagner, 2017). The Model Systems Knowledge Center, operated by the American Institutes for Research, reports that 50% of people with traumatic brain injury are affected by depression within the first year of injury. It is further noted that more than half of those also have significant anxiety.
