The primary question you must answer for the paper is:

• What ideologies do the media text or media event reproduce and circulate?
• Articulate a clear definition of ideology
• Identify at least two ideologies the media text or event imparts
• Using examples from the text or event, describe what the ideologies look like and how they are represented
• Identify possible dominant, negotiated and/or opposition readings
• Use lecture notes and course readings to conduct your analysis

In answering this question make sure you do the following:

• News coverage of the COVID crisis, January 6, next year’s midterm elections, etc.
• Current TV shows
• Films
• Video Games
• Instagram Handles
• Award shows such as the Oscars or Golden Globes
• Twitter Feeds
• TikTok or YouTube Videos
• Advertisements
• Websites

a) Papers must be 5-6 pages in length, double-spaced, with margins of one inch and numbered pages. The font size must be a standard 11 or 12 point.

b) Papers must demonstrate that you have done all the readings and attended the lectures.
