USF United Nations Question
Question Description
I’m working on a english writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Among the most contentious land disputes in the global community since World War II has been the altercation between the world’s Jewish Community and the Palestinians over the territory from the Jordan River west to the Mediterranean Sea. The Palestinians and the Israelis have been fighting for ownership or control of this land both overtly and covertly since 1945.
Simultaneous to the beginning of this dispute was the formation of the global political organization of the Unite Nations (UN). The role of the United Nations has supposedly been to resolve such global conflicts through negotiations and diplomacy. As of now, the UN’s decision has been to split the land of the Eastern Mediterranean between the two communities, Israelis and Palestinians. However, with this decision the UN has given most of the land to the Israelis. At the same time the Palestinians insist that the propriety of the land was always theirs and that the Israelis have been there only as foreign settlers for some 50 years and hence relative newcomers. Therefore, to many of the Palestinians not only did the UN’s decision favor the Israelis but it was illegitimate. what you need to do: 1) So who is right? (consider Palestinians is right) 2) Considering who is right what is the best solution to resolve the conflict? 3) What should the united Nations and the United States roles be in this conflict?
