UoP Concurrent Validity in Beck Depression Inventory Discussion
Description
Respond to the following in a minimum of 200 words:
Criterion validity is a measure of how well your test matches up with other established, external measures. There are two kinds of criterion validity: concurrent (matching in the present) and predictive (matching in the future).
For example, the SAT does not have predictive validity. Its scores are supposed to predict (match up with) future college performance, but they do not. They do not correlate with GPA, time to degree or other measures in college. Colleges keep track of SAT and GPA data, and whether it is a private or public, large or small school, people who score in the middle of the SAT do just as well in college as people who score high (College Board report). There are reasons for this, but for now we can use this example to illustrate a lack of predictive validity.
So, class, if you gave your client a depression test such as the Beck Depression Inventory, what else could you use to help you establish concurrent validity?
