- Steve is your division VP. You’re the lead strategist.
- Your assignment?Provide a high-level strategic analysis of a product.
- Choose a product (either from K&M BOS paper (Paper is attached) or a different one):
- <15 slide summary of the product and how it fits into Blue Ocean Strategy
- You may revise and expand your thinking in the ‘notes’ below (Just warn me they’re there).
- What did the industry look like pre-launch?What was the competitive situation? (For this part, describe what was going on in the market prior to the launch of the product you’ve chosen.)
- Provide 4 Actions Framework
- What was reduced, eliminated, increased, etc.?
- Strategy Canvas
- Build one canvas for the before situation and a second canvas for the after situation. (Don’t make just one canvas; you need to make two and describe them independently).
- Your After canvas must clearly show the ‘gap’ created.
- Which of the “6 Paths” were chosen?Why?
- Assess the risk of trying this strategy
- Hints: New, untried market, brand image, etc.
- How did this product offering do after launch?
- Some suggestions:
- Apple’s iPod, Google’s ad business, Starbucks, Amazon.com, Netflix, Dell computer, Chipotle Restaurants,
- Anything from K&M’s paper (although newer products will have more data)
- Submit a Power Point file. Pretend you have to present this to me.
- Provide links to your data (NOT from Wiki.-5 plus public ridicule, immortalized on tape)
- That said, Wiki is often a good place to start.
(I attached the classes’ lectures as well for your reference but the idea of this project is to perform a blue ocean strategy analysis on a product and I chose Netflix)
