Description

Scenario: The UNWTO has developed a special funding program that supports Responsible Tourism initiatives and is looking for opportunities to invest in sustainable tourism projects. You have been recruited as part of a special team of experts to provide the UNWTO with a policy paper recommendation brief that identifies a potential area for investment in sustainable tourism and makes a specific recommendation with respect to Responsible Tourism initiatives that can be implemented.

The policy paper can focus on an entire destination, a specific business or a sector of the tourism industry (e.g., accommodation, food & beverage, attractions, transportation, adventure & outdoor recreation, tourism & travel services). The objective of the policy paper is to make recommendations with respect to how a destination/component of the industry can become more sustainable: in what ways can this destination/component of the industry be more sustainable?

The UNTWO will make investment decisions based on the recommendations made in the policy paper.

The policy paper needs to:

provide a background on the selected area of focus; background information includes details that explain the problem/area that needs improvement

argue why this area of focus is an important and relevant choice; identify points that support the recommendation

identify and evaluate the options for improving sustainability through responsible action; present the essential points/solutions

recommend a specific path forward


