I’m working on a history discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

This week’s readings on the Truman Doctrine, Walter Lippman’s “Critique of Containment”, etc. all illustrate the growing fear of Americans towards the influence of Soviet communism. Why do some of these documents say it is necessary to combat communism on the world stage? How did this fear of communism come to affect American foreign policy in regard to “containment” and what were there critiques of containment?
