University of Phoenix Management Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a information technology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Post a good, substantive reply with at least 175 words to one of the following questions (please copy the question’s short title at the top of your reply so we all know what you are replying to):
Strategic – Tactical – Operational Plans. How are strategic, tactical, and operational plans related? What is a “tactical” plan? What is an “operational” plan? (When considering this topic, it’s useful to think at first in military terms, and then translate that from the military to business.)
Soft skills. Do we need “soft skills” when implementing a strategic plan? Aren’t such plans commanded from high above, Prussian-style, and compulsorily implemented by everyone without hesitation? [“Soft skills: people’s abilities to communicate with each other and work well together” — The Cambridge Dictionary.]
Change Management. It could be successfully argued that the implementation of strategic planning could bring about significant change in an organization. Should the discipline of Change Management be part of the toolbox of strategic planners? Why? Why not?
- Failed IT governance. Describe a recent episode of IT failed governance that you may be familiar with, or about which you read a description in the technical press. What would you have done differently to avoid the issues reported?
- Driving Competitive Advantage. Companies use mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing, and vertical expansion to gain a competitive advantage, control quality costs, and expand markets, among other reasons. Discuss how these strategies differ from each other in terms of risk and potential benefit, and how they are similar. Why would a company choose one strategy over another?
