University of Phoenix Healthcare Data Analytics Discussion

Description

Respond to the following

INITAL POST:  How does departmental and financial data play into health care data analytics? Provide an example.

REPLIES (2):

1. Mirha: Departmental and financial data are key metrics that the clinics focus on when it relates to data analytics. Data analytics in clinical settings helps to promote better patient experience, staff morale which leads to better success with finances for the clinic. Departmental data are important in ensuring that the team sees how the clinic is functioning overall as a whole. One example of departmental data is patient experience data that you share regularly with your team members. When you have transparency and share this data it can ensure that staff are aware on what our patients perceive us as and it can help develop experiments that the clinic can put into place to increase patient satisfaction. Financial data is important in ensuring that we are looking at performance, ways to cut back spending and look into opportunities to improve existing products or services as well. If we were not capturing this data, it would be hard for us to make any improvements that are needed, but also lead to quality and safety issues down the road.

2.Beth: Class, I would like to find out what kind of clinical information systems use at your organizations. Clinical information systems (CIS) are defined as large, computerized database systems that are used in clinical documentation (CPOE) and decision support (Use of protocols and standards).

We have become quite sophisticated in our approach to use of standards and use of evidence. Many systems are now imbedded with data. For example, if you do not know the normal range for PT/INR, you can click a button and obtain the information. If you use standardized scale for measurement, you can find the scale hidden behind the scenes. All of these points lead to data points that can be analyzed.

Class – think about care delivery. How is data analysis enhanced through CIS?
