University of Oklahoma Historical and Critical Analysis of the Burj Khalifa Paper

Process

You will begin by working to select an object or building from design history to study in depth, something which we haven’t gone into to much detail in class, the topic should be defined or identified as an icon of design history. (I already picked the subject which is “Burj Khalifa”) Get that topic approved by your instructor. Your topic must fall into the timeline covered in class, so anything from the industrial revolution to present day (topics outside of the timeline will be considered on a case-by-case basis). You will then work to research your topic.

The paper should be very in-depth, containing both a history, and critical analysis of the piece. Discuss things like who designed it, what inspired it, what in turn has it inspired. Also, don’t forget to analyze its design. Is it well designed? Why or why not? Discuss the functionality of the item. What materials does it use and do they have cultural significance to the time period in which it was assigned? The papers are an individual assignment but we will exchange papers for peer reviews and to get feedback for improvement.

Keep in mind that I need the outline in the next 24 hours. Then you can spend the rest of the time to work on the full paper.
