University of Idaho Flash Embarrassment and Appreciation Narrative Essay
Description
You will draw on your learning of narrative writing to tell a story about a specific, significant experience in your or someone else’s life and communicate it so your reader feels what the subject of the story feels.
You will apply narrative techniques we have discussed in class, including:
-
- Use plentiful sensory details
- Include interesting dialogue (between characters or shown as “inner thoughts” of the narrator)
- Provide thoughts/details in the moment
This story must have a beginning, a middle, and end and needs to portray in words what you learned from the experience (provides a message/insight/wisdom to the reader.) Whatever your subject, try to transport your reader to a specific point in time. Consider your audience and make rhetorical that will connect with them. Have fun and be creative!
Flash Narrative
You will write about a fully realized SCENE based on a specific, significant experience in your or someone else’s life and communicate it so your reader feels what the subject of the story feels. The Flash Narrative has a word count of 500-750 words.
