In this assignment, students will learn the actual successful/failure stories from the businesses who implemented Lean Six Sigma in their process. Each story may discuss the problems, purpose, tools/techniques used, barriers/obstacles, and results.

Your assignment is to summarize major contents of these items. You will select only 1 position paper and 3 case studies to review. The criteria for the selection could be your interest. Lean Six Sigma tools/techniques have been implemented in different industry; manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunication, automotive, aerospace, banking, and others. If you plan to work in the oil and energy industry, you might select the cases studies from the section ‘energy and transportation. Or if you’re in IT, your interest might be in section “information systems and technology”.

1. American Society for Quality (ASQ), website www.asq.org under Search, type ‘case study’ There will be many case studies related to quality and productivity improvement.

Also, ASQ provides detailed information and templates of tools/techniques (fishbone diagram, check sheet, control chart, A3 report, ..). This is under “Learn about quality”.

2. Air Academy Associates provide good examples of Lean Six Sigma project, articles, and case study. In this assignment, you’ll visit the website http://www.airacad.com, on the top menu, under “Our Insights”, you will see, case studies, position papers, and presentation.
Under Case Studies page, many cases under sub-section manufacturing, government, financial services, energy and transportation, healthcare pharmaceutical and biotech, professional and administrative services, information systems and technology, and retail operation.

In your writing, you should provide the title of each item that you selected and the URL address, then review the major points and end up with the relation of your selected item with our course contents that you learn in IndM 4230 class.
1 Position paper – the length should be 150-200 words, and

3 selected case studies – the length (no limit), creating a matrix table for presenting all 3 case studies with the project’s title, cases’ problems and purposes, quality tools used to solve problems, the results after implementation.
