University of California San Diego Preparing for Death Questions

University of California San Diego Preparing for Death Questions

Question Description

I’m working on a religion discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Are there times when denial of our mortality is a good thing? If “preparation” doesn’t really necessarily make dying any easier, is there value in “facing it?”  If so, what would it be?

Would you imagine yourself more as one who would want to “grow old gracefully” and not fight it or somebody who would fight the aging process and do all you could to stay young? Is there a good middle ground?

  1. It the near universality of dying in a hospital (here in the United States) a good thing? Something you think has genuine benefit to most patients? More of a cultural custom?  Something that primarily serves needs that aren’t medical? Why is dying at home so rare? Anything that could/should be done to change that?
