University of California Davis Playlist Analysis
Description
For this assignment we will do something creative instead of the usual stressful midterm examination. Each of us will create our own “playlist.” A playlist can include a song, a poem, a video (YouTube), a film clip, an art work, a podcast, a website, and any number of other forms of creative media. A strong playlist will contain a diversity of media. If you are unsure as to whether a form (or language) of media is allowable, please feel free to consult with me.
A few simple rules for creating your playlist:
Each item must demonstrate knowledge of the course material – readings, films, and/or lectures. Items may be from the time period under discussion or they may be contemporary (from the present time), provided that appropriate justification is provid
Playlist will cover Weeks 1–5.
- Your Midterm Exam Playlist must contain 10 items (two items for each Week). Each item should contain a hyperlink whenever possible (e.g., to the song or YouTube) or be reproduced in your document (e.g. if it is a short poem). Each item must have a correct citation using the Chicago Manual of Style.
- You must write a one paragraph justification for each item that a) demonstrates knowledge of the course material and b) provides a sense of historical context.
Some questions to consider when choosing a playlist item: what key concept or term am I trying to convey from the course material? How can I justify my use of this particular song, website, or film clip?
