Description
In MMW 12, we’ve read two different Res Gestae, the first of the Roman emperor Augustus and the
second of the Sasanian king Shapur I. Both are monumental inscriptions through which an emperor
advertises his accomplishments. In this essay, please identify two points of commonality and one
point of difference between the two Res Gestae. Then, please discuss what your “point of difference”
tells us about the Persian ideal of kingship. Please be as specific as you can, and make sure to
cite/quote both texts to substantiate your discussion of each point.
