The processes of nationalism and democratization are still unfolding as new struggles for independence, democracy, and nationalism fill global headlines. The overwhelming power of the global economy makes it increasingly difficult for people around the world to believe in the power of the nation-state. Regionalized conflict, labor migration, and environmental degradation are displacing millions of people who find themselves outside their home country, lacking the protection of citizenship, without rights or legal recourse (p. 203).

Choose a current event (a regionalized conflict, a recent wave of migration, a social movement within a country, etc.) and briefly explain the implications of nationalism within that event.
