In your family of origin and culture, how were listening and communicating valued?
What role did you play in terms of listening? (Were you the listener? the speaker? the questioner? Did people ask you for advice? Were you often the “fixer?” Was listening challenging or easy in your family?)
In what ways are your childhood and history tied to your current or future career choice?
- What kinds of topics may be easier or harder for you to be the listener?
- Given your history, what kinds of individuals (presenting problems, identities, race/ethnicity/culture, gender, orientation, sexuality class, etc.) do you think will be easier AND harder to be listener? What informs these conclusions?
- Please identity at least 2 or 3 “kinds” of people you would have an easier time and at least 2 or 3 “kinds” of people you would have a harder for you to be the listener.
