The Internet of Things and Privacy Paper
Description
Internet Thing) and specific on Privacy
Week 01: Science and Cybersecurity
- Create an account on Overleaf. Pick the ACM conference template. Familiarize with LATEX. Name the project Firstname_Lastname_Topic
- To come up with an idea on what would you like to do your research on, you got to start reading. You can start on Google Scholar, but also use the resources we have through EZProxy: ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, etc. This goes in your “Literature review” as what you are essentially doing is reviewing what knowledge there is the domain of interest of yours. “Wait, I haven’t done research before, nor have written in academic format, nor have used Overleaf.” Tough luck. Here are some tips and example papers [14, 15, 16, 17]. Don’t stop when you go through the first ten results on the first keyword search in Google Scholar. It is easy for me to see how much effort you have put into it. Search, review, rinse, repeat.
- Homework 1: Write any notes from your literature review pertaining to your research project. Also, get familiar with citations. “How to cite in LATEX? Here is a bit of a help.Week 02: Observational Research Methods
- Now that you have your survey and a bit more of sense what you might like to do, it is time to give the first jab in defining what knowledge you will produce, that is, try to come up the very first draft of your research question(s) and/or hypotes(es).
- Homework 2: Walk the research decision tree we covered in class [“Uh…. I haven’t watched the Panopto lecture” Well, do], with your previous literature review in mind, and select a research methodology. Here is a refresher. Do not submit the tree or anything related to that. This is only an exercise about making concrete steps on what you will focus on work- ing in your paper. This will force you to you revise the literature review and add/modify some of the references and prior evidence you have selected. This revision will go in the “Research Design” section of your paper. The main goal of this part is identifying a gap in the literature that has not been sufficiently researched. That is where you want to take a look and produce knowledge.
