An experiment was conducted to determine the difference in cleaning ability of four leading detergents and a generic detergent (all renamed here to protect their identities). Each of the standard brands has a regular and an ultra variant. Fifteen loads of clothing (that were stained approximately the same) were randomly assigned to the five detergents, and the resulting cleanliness was measured on a 0-5 scale (higher is better).
