The Colonial State and Forms of Knowledge by Vinay Lal Reflection Paper
Description
There are two readings, and you can choose which one to write about. It is a 250-500 word reflection essay, where you make clear that you understand the main message or argument and opinion the author is trying to convey, and why the author wrote his work. The essay must be incredibly strong grammatically. It can include pieces of evidence from the readings, and analysis, just like a standard essay, just with more reflection, as it should be directed to explaining the author’s main arguments, and the intention behind their writing. Throughout this course, we have been focusing on the non-elite history and historians, who look at history from the bottom up; Meaning they focus on the everyday people who have been marginalized, such as African Americans, Women, the LGBTQ community, etc., whose voices have been lost, rather than just focusing on the political elites who are in the state archives like typical historians. They have the desire to bring from the margins to the center, the people and voices that have either been forgotten or rendered negligible over the course of history.
