For your final, you will write your own popular culture essay, just Hanif Abdurraqib did in his book. You will write an essay on a topic that falls within pop culture: television, film/video, music, dance, etc., that integrates your personal experience and connection to that topic. Do not just write about TELEVISION, or etc. But on a specific topic WITHIN popular culture – a particular television show, or a dance performance, or an artist within an area of popular culture. Think about how Hanif Abdurraqib does it. The more specific you get, the easier this paper will be. This should, like the book, employ research – at least three verifiable sources (NO WIKIPEDIA OR PERSONAL BLOG SITES) – and you cannot use A Little Devil in America as one of your sources. 5-7 pages minimum, double spaced, 12 point font. MLA format – both as quoted within the paper (or paraphrased) as well as a Works Cited page in the back of the book. Choose a topic that means something to you, but something that you’ve always wanted to dig deeper into. Think about the connections, the larger significance of what you’re studying.
