These are not required but are suggested to give you some ideas…make sure you read the two chapters before you begin the interview! 1. Introduce yourself and explain you are a social work student taking a Community practice course at CU. 2. Tell the subject you are looking at community needs. Ask them what they think the needs of the community are? 3. Ask about the composition of the community (ethnicity, wealth, poverty, health of community members, education levels attained, industry or work opportunities, age of population, population growth or decline, geography of the community and boundaries (how large the physical space or region for which they serve), etc. (some of your own questions are necessary). 4. If you wish, share with them the concern you are focusing upon for the purposes of this course. Then asking them about their opinion of this need. 5. Ask them how you might begin to assistance in solving the need you identified in Module 1. 6. Ask them if there are volunteer networks in the community and how those networks came about? 7. How might you, as a program developer, tap into those volunteer networks? 8. If money were no object, what would the governing council undertake as the #1 priority for this community?
