SUNY at Binghamton Consciousness Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a psychology exercise and need guidance to help me learn.
After you have watched my lecture, and watched the round table discussion on Consciousness, answer the following:
1. In your own words: What is the hard problem of consciousness, and why is it hard? What are the easy problems of consciousness, and why are they easy?
2. What are some of the solutions to the hard problem that are discussed in the video and in my lecture? Which of them do you find most convincing? Least convincing and why?
3. What is your reaction to the Mary the Color Scientist (the Knowledge Argument) that I discuss in my lecture? First, what is the point of this thought experiment (i.e. what is the author attempting to show with it?) Second, do you think it is a convincing argument against physicalism? Why or why not?
4. What is the search for the neural correlates of consciousness? Would finding the NCC solve the hard problem? Why or why not?
