Strayer University Police Brutality Across American Cities Discussion

In class, we talked about three ways of integrating quotes in your writing: 1) direct quote, 2) key words/phrases, and 3) paraphrasing/summarizing. Choose three of the quotes below and use them to write one paragraph each in which you make your own argument about the topic.

Remember that you are using the quote to amplify the argument you are making in the paragraph. Each paragraph should have the following elements:

• A signal phrase introducing the quote
• Citation of the author
• The quote/key words/summary
• A follow-up statement that explains how the quote relates to your argument.

The most recent sweep of legislative moves to restrict and prohibit the teaching of Critical Race Theory is a clear indicator that racism is still prevalent in the United States. According to writerJames Baldwin, “Ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have.” The power that has been amassed combined with the subtle nature of these legislative moves has placed the very freedom of speech that the first amendment guarantees in jeopardy due to the lack of understanding of the importance of providing multiple perspectives of any situation.
