Editorials and commentaries are written by people who want us to understand and be swayed by their points of view. When expressing reasons to support their arguments, the writers will often use fallacies to make the arguments more effective. Fallacies can be used to get our emotions flowing. Sometimes it is easier for us to form decisions using our emotions instead of using logic, facts, and research. The important thing to remember is that fallacies are red flags in a person’s argument. If the argument is solely supported by a reason that is faulty, then the argument isn’t very strong.

As you read the article, look for two logical fallacies that are used to support the author’s conclusion. After you read the article, you will answer a series of questions.
