St Johns University Gender Discrimination from Honduras to the USA Essay

 research and describe your ancestors and discuss why they came to the United States. What was going on in their home countries that motivated them to leave? What opportunity did the United States represent to them? What jobs did they have in their old country, and what jobs did they take in the United States? How well did their life in the U.S. live up to their expectations?

To do this assignment:

(1) Interview your parents, grandparents, and any other family members who can shed light on this topic.

(2) Research and describe what was going on in the home country at the time your ancestors left and compare that to the United States during the same time period.

Explain what conditions and prospects motivated them to leave their home country. How did they fare once they got here? What was life like for those who remained behind? If your family still resides abroad, explain why *you* came to study in the United States, and compare the economic opportunities in your home country with the United States.

The paper should be about 3.5 to 4 pages single spaced. I’m try to get as much as much info as I have on my family for you. She wasn’t the best with money so all the money she did make, usually went bank into the business, or for her 5 children, or to make sure they could afford the bills month to month. When she was in Honduras, the only jobs that were available to her was to be a stay at home and make no money but what the man brings home for you or House maid or things such as that. She knew she had an entrepreneurial spirit and could potentially make more money doing that here in America. (Definitely feel free to do more research on the most common jobs during that time for women in Honduras and the difference between that and in America)When she got here, she had a few siblings and aunts/uncles here who were making livable wages but nothing crazy. (making minimum wages or slightly higher but that was more than what they were making in Honduras so they did what they could.) They often had two or three bedroom apartments and the kids or family members would share a home to cut the cost of rent with each other. (feel free to look up what that average cost was for immigrant families in America during the 1970s). As for my aunt and 4 uncles, they each built they’re own ventures eventually. All of my uncles and aunt, finished high school but only my dad decided to go to college in state. Soon after college, my dad built his life within the corporate finance world because he knew of the Financial gains to be great in that industry. He was able to buy his first condo with a mortgage for around 200-250k at 24 years old. He had more financial understanding and understood how to save money to make money in the future. He owns multiple properties to help generate additional income. he is doing 30x better than my grandma was able to due to the fact that he had financial literacy and more knowledge of how things work here. One uncle owns property as well and owned his first pizza shop when he was 20 years old. he has been pretty well off too without a college Education. The rest have all been able to make a good living where they don’t struggle as much as their mother had to. You can compare where my families way of life is here in America vs. How life could have been in Honduras based off the stats there now.
