Ch11 focuses on helping you as a teacher become better at creating solid assessments that can really help your students. But how can you ensure that the assessments you’re developing are of high quality? Popham gets really technical with us in this chapter. But let’s sift through some of the jargon and make it practical. Talk about how you are going to make sure that the test items you create are going to do a good job of measuring what they are supposed to measure. Initial Post: Try to speak with one who teaches the same grade level and subject(s) you plan to teach. Tell us why you chose this particular teacher to interview for this assignment. Tell us how you conducted the interview (in person, phone, Zoom, etc.). Find out how he/she creates high quality assessments. What steps does this teacher take? Does the teacher collaborate with anyone else in the building? What words of advice does this person have for you? Include at least two good resources you’ve found that will help you to create good assessments for your students. And finally, be reflective in your post–don’t just “report the facts” without thinking about what you learned. For example, did the teacher confirm what you already knew about creating assessments, or were you surprised by anything he/she told you? What follow-up questions would you have for the teacher if you had the chance to speak with him/her again? That sort of thing… Your initial post can be completed through a written post, or through a presentation of your choice. If you create a presentation, please consider using your webcam and microphone so we can see and hear you.
