SNHU Instructional Practices for Teaching Comprehension Discussion
Description
Plan
After reading chapters 8 & 9 in Reading Assessment and Instruction (there are several options for assessment on pages 254 – 264 and 310 – 317) and pages 101 – 104, 120 – 124, 147 – 150, 179 – 183, 208 – 210, and 229 – 232 (blue pages) in Strategies That Work, select at least two comprehension assessments appropriate to your students.
Implement
Administer these assessments to a class or small group of students.
Reflect
In your journal entry, share a description of the assessments that were administered, a rationale for why you selected these assessments, an analysis of the results (for at least two students), and an explanation of the implications for future instruction. Conclude with an explanation of the role formal and/or informal assessment of comprehension play in making instructional decisions to meet individual student’s needs. (Refer to pages 264 & 265 of Reutzel and Cooter, the section, “Using Students Assessment Data to Guide Instruction: If-Then Teaching Strategy Guide,” and pages 322 – 324.)
