SFU Harold Johnson on the issue of Indigenous Justice Essay
Description
Hi, Mr. mahinsakavindu95, this assignment is similar to a previous writing assignment we did earlier (worth 25% of the grade towards the course, the previous one is 20%), basically, we have to briefly go through a short book Peace and Good Order by Harold Johnson, pdf attached. And further info and rubric are in the attachment, let me know your thoughts on this in case of time and what grade we could get at the minimum.
The assignment is due on April 10th 11:59 PM PDT(Vancouver Time), so finish anytime before 11:50 pm that day would be the best.
Respond to the book: Peace and Good Order by Harold Johnson. This assignment is designed for you to apply many of the concepts and lenses you’ve learned about in this course.
In 6-8 pages, please respond to ONE of the following three options:
1. Equity and diversity are topics talked about a lot today. How does Johnson discuss the issue of diversity in his book? Examine TWO applications of the notion of diversity in institutions in Johnson’s book. What are the benefits or shortcomings of diversity from his view? Do you agree and/or disagree? What else do you think Johnson should consider?
2. The book by Harold Johnson is, in itself, an example of critical thought AND critical thinking. How did Johnson critically think about the issue of Indigenous Justice? As well, how is his conception of the justice system an example of critical thought? Where did he fall short (where do you think he lacked critical thinking and/or use of critical thought)? Be sure to give clear examples and/or explanation of these two ways of thinking.
3. Johnson provides a number of examples of how Indigenous people’s are ‘set up to fail’ in the justice system. For Johnson, what is wrong with the current conception of the justice system? What are some potential solutions from Johnson’s perspective? Is Johnson missing anything or do you have any alternative views or suggestions?
In your answer to one of the questions above, also reflect: Which parts of Johnson’s views makes the most sense to you? Which parts made you feel the most uncomfortable? Why do you think you had these reactions?
Important things to note about this assignment:
Your critical analysis and essay must be conducted independently – i.e. not with other students.
