Scenario
You are a teacher in an early childhood education program. You have noticed that the families in your program are not as involved as you would like. Parents often drop their child(ren) off and pick them up at the door and leave right away without having a chance to learn about their day. You also question whether parents are reading the materials that are sent home, such as the child’s daily log of what they did throughout the day.
After reading Family Engagement articles above, you realize how important family engagement is. Your director has asked you to try to get families more involved with the program and with their children.
Instructions
Create a message to send out to parents to encourage them to get involved. This could be done using a variety of medias, such as a newsletter, phone message, or video (be creative!). The following information should be included in your message:
- Explain to parents why family engagement is important
- Acknowledge some of the barriers for family engagement
