SDSU Classification of Fungi Questions

SDSU Classification of Fungi Questions

Question Description

I’m working on a microbiology question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

1. What structures for the basis for the classification of fungi? What are the four groups into which

fungi are currently classified?

2. Compare and contrast the fungi, protozoa, algae and helminthes in terms of their cell

composition, means of obtaining food, nutritional type and cellular arrangement.

3. Compare and contrast superficial, systemic and subcutaneous mycoses.

4. Distinguish between a prion and a viroid.

5. Although Bergey’s manual organizes the bacteria in one manner (according to ribosomal RNA

sequences), this is not the only way, nor necessarily the most practical way to organize

information about the bacteria for use in the laboratory. One useful way to organize the

organisms is according to morphology and staining characteristics. Using the yellow sheet of

bacteria that are used in this class. prepare a table that lists the organism, the phylum according

to Bergey’s manual, the medical significance, the mode of transmission (air, water, food, close

contact, sexual contact), and the body system affected (ie, skin, nervous system,

cardiovascular/lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive)
