SC The C S Pierce Methods for Determining Belief Analysis

SC The C S Pierce Methods for Determining Belief Analysis

Question Description

I’m working on a psychology question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

pick and answer only 1 question please:

1. C. S. Peirce insists that we can fix our beliefs in (at least) one of four ways. What are these? Why does Peirce say the first three ways are faulty, respectively? Remember, he cites different problems for each way. Why does he prefer the method of science? Namely, what is better about this latter method? Explain.

2. John Dewey, like Peirce, is a big critic of Descartes. Heidegger criticizes Descartes for the same reasons. Namely, all think that Cartesian epistemology asks us to do something psychologically impossible. Dewey objects to this quest for certainty. So according to him, what is wrong with this quest, exactly? do you agree or disagree?

Pragmatism, it should be said, is fairly scientific. And this is why these philosophers concentrate so much on the natural world. Naturalism, for these thinkers, is part of commonsense.

Pragmatism is perhaps the only purely American philosophical movement. In other words, it is the only movement where the philosophers come from this country, and whose tenets seem to represent something from here. C. S. Peirce and John Dewey- the philosophers of this section- denied much of what Descartes, Hume, and even Kant argued.
