Saint Leo University Haileys Leadership Discussion

Saint Leo University Haileys Leadership Discussion

Description

In considering Hailey’s first steps in her new leadership role, it seems that she is starting on the right track at the right pace. Becoming a production manager at the age of 26 years old and carrying two degrees that assist in her ability to lead and critical think, the best first step she could have considered was consulting with those who have more experience and time than herself. Starting this way shows a level of maturity and transparency immediately to her team. The only issue so far is that the feedback she has received is conflicting. Some feel that everything is fine and no changes at the moment are required, Others, for example Jenna, had a very specific concern toward the qualifications of production technicians and their ability to be proficient in their jobs. In order to make a difference and continue to be an effective leader, I would advise Hailey to take in all the suggestions and information she can and determine what initial decisions would positively affect all parties involved. It would be in her best interest to consider effective changes carefully and modestly as she enters her new role. In opposition, being rash to make decisions and interrupting the work flow unnecessarily would make her appear unprepared and too naïve to handle the role of management over peers with more experience.

In order for Hailey to get a fair analysis of the expectations of her new position, she should consider the perspectives of her management peers and those who will follow her lead. The goal ultimately should not be to take the opinion of those interviewed and make decisions immediately to appease everyone. Instead, the goal should be to take the input of each represented group and determine what decisions would be the most beneficial to all affected. In this scenario, changes may not be necessary according to a couple people Hailey has interviewed so far. Other interviewees have very specific needs or requests for change. The right answer for the group may not be to address just the managements’ concerns or just the concerns of her team, but, there could be a solution that Hailey can formulate that will be effective to all. A worker of every role under her leadership should be represented to create a clear and concise idea of what those around her expects as she takes on the new position in production management. This is a simple way to make the analysis of expectations inclusive and without bias. Becoming a great leader has everything to do with inclusion and being team-oriented.
