To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Create a research question using the Afrobarometer Dataset, that can be answered by multiple regression.

Use SPSS to answer the research question. Post your response to the following:

  1. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age).
  2. What is your research question?
  3. What is the null hypothesis for your question?
  4. What research design would align with this question?
  5. What dependent variable was used and how is it measured?
  6. What independent variables are used and how are they measured? What is the justification for including these predictor variables?
  7. If you found significance, what is the strength of the effect?
  8. Explain your results for a lay audience, explain what the answer to your research question.

Example of RQ, Hypotheses, & Results—use this wording as the basis for your write up!

Research Question: What is the relationship between self-worth, self-confidence, and career anxiety?

Null Hypothesis (H0): There is no statistically significant relationship between self-worth, self-confidence, and career anxiety.

Alternative Hypothesis (HA): There is a statistically significant relationship between self-worth, self-confidence, and career anxiety.

Independent Variables (IVs):

  • Self-worth: 0-100, higher score indicates higher self-worth
  • Self-confidence: 0-100, higher score indicates higher self-confidence
  • Dependent Variable (DV);

Career anxiety: 0-100, higher score indicates higher career anxiety

    Assumption Testing:

Here you should provide the assumptions for the statistical test and the results of the statistical tests related to those assumptions. Include in this information: 1) what the assumption is, 2) how you can determine if the assumption is met or not, 3) the results that indicate to you if the assumption is met or not, and 4) what you need to do in relation to the statistical test you are conducting based on if the assumption is met or not (for example, if the assumption of sphericity is not met because Levene’s test was statistically significant (p=.04) so we need to use the Greenhouse-Geisser results). Provide citations in this section to back up your statements and conclusions in this section.

    Results:

A multiple regression analysis was conducted in order to determine if there was a statistically significant relationship between self-worth, self-confidence, and career anxiety. Both self-worth (p=.04) and self-confidence (p=.01) were related to career anxiety at statistically significant levels. *You can then go into more detail about the statistically significant relationships** Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative accepted.
