Rowan University Young Goodman Brown Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a literature writing question and need a reference to help me learn.
In “Young Goodman Brown,” Hawthorne draws upon not only American history, but his own family’s history in Salem. What is the “secret” about human nature revealed to the title character when he reaches the meeting deep in the forest? Explain the significance of what he witnesses. How/why does this change his life? What would a Calvinist say about his behavior when he returns to town and lives out the rest of his life as a changed man?
