Project Step 3: Health Problem Determinants
Description
You now need to add in the determinants of your problem. What are the associated factors that may DETERMINE if a person is likely to have your problem? Like each week, use my headings. Support your comments with facts when possible or give an example. (ie what policy? show % differences in groups if SDoH is a factor etc)
Policy
Social-THIS MEANS DOES YOUR SOCIAL STATUS MAKE YOU MORE OR LESS LIKELY TO HAVE YOUR PROBLEM
Health Access
Individual & Family Behavior
Biology/Genetics
Then summarize the data you have from the epidemiology data you collected last week
THIS WEEK YOU NEED TO USE THE INTERNET TO EXPAND ON YOUR TOPIC!
ASSIGNMENT
Read these instructions ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, review the and use my example to guide your work! NOTICE how I use facts to support how important my problem is and prove what is contributing to it.
10 pts Determinant Categories: have the same ones listed I did but apply to your chosen problem. YOU must have at least one reference for facts. Two is better.
hint: BEHAVIOR-this is easy–does WHAT YOU DO make this problem worse or better?
10 pts Determinants Social: same as above. You must have at least one reference and fact. Two is better
hint: SOCIAL does NOT mean social situations or social media-its all in the unit guys. Social determinants are WHERE YOU LIVE WORK AND PLAY. You need to make comments here on if a person’s income, race/minority status, how educated you are or where you live/housing makes your problem worse or better
10 pts Determinant Summary: here you analyze what is important and what you think you can work on. Be realistic. Changing policy or economics would be very hard! Think how you can impact!
hint: primary means “first”-do not list multiple, list the first most important DETERMINATE CATEGORY AND FACTOR. For example, if you picked lung cancer, primary would be : BEHAVIOR: SMOKING
Secondary means two-list the second most important determinant (contributor) to your problem. This will help you focus your intervention. Secondary may be: ACCESS TO CARE:people without insurance are more likely to die. OR SOCIAL: black americans are more likely to die from cander
