POLS 1101 American Government
Description
Write an essay answering the following questions:
Research all candidates who are running for the U.S. Senate (not state!) seat in Georgia in the upcoming election on November 8. The candidates’ own websites are a good place to start. You may also utilize trustworthy and credible news sources, such as the Atlanta Journal Constitution, NPR, the Associated Press, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.
Who is the incumbent in this race? What does that term mean, and does this individual have any advantages because they are the incumbent? Hint: Refer to Chapter 8.
Which party does each candidate belong to (focus on the candidates of the two major parties only for this particular question)? How does each candidate’s positions on different issues align with or differ from the platform of their political party? Hint: See Investigations 9.18 and 9.19.
Finally, is there a third-party candidate running for office? Does this person have a chance of winning? Why or why not? Be sure to thoroughly explain your answer. Hint: See Chapter 9.
Make sure that you use information from your webtext (and properly cite it) in order to answer this question. Remember, your personal ideology and/or opinions are not relevant to this essay. The point of this assignment is to show me what you have learned, and that you can apply what you have learned to current events.
