Physics Momentum Conservation Discussion

Description

please respond to jason

I  have a real appreciation for sports.  One example of momentum conservation, I believe, would be hitting a softball.  In our youth we most likely began to learn by hitting a ball off the tee.  The ball would, of course, be at rest while the bat was swung and contact was made, bat to ball.  in this example we have two objects.  The ball mass is 2 kg and the bat mas is 10 kg and the acceleration is 5 m/s.  We can calculate mass times velocity of ball equals zero, ball is at rest.  And mass of bat times velocity of bat is five meters per second equals fifty.  Then add the mass of bat to that of the ball and find the difference and you have 4.2 m/s momentum conservation.

Relecting on my comment, I believe this to be an elastic collision.  The transfer from one to the other occurs, but instead of the bat moving with negative velocity after impact it will carry through the initial swing, continuing in a positive direction.
