PGU Changes of Buddhism Culture in Modern Communities Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a english writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
1) Please remember to use Chicago Style (or CMOS). Over the years, I’ve seen quite a bit of confusion over Chicago Style formatting. For this class, we are using the CMOS Notes/Bibliography (NB) format. A good resource for this style can be found online at Purdue OWL: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/c…
Here’s a sample of NB format in a paper: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/c…
Regarding “Ibid”, the newest CMOS discourages the use of Ibid, however, I will accept it this semester.
Zotero is a GREAT citation tool for you to download and use in conjunction with a writing processor, like microsoft word – When selecting the citation style, be sure to use “Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition (Full note)”.
2) Avoid overly dramatic introductions that say nothing. If your paper begins “Since the dawn of time”, please STOP! DELETE that sentence. You are writing an essay, not a movie trailer.
3) Be sure to use footnotes, not endnotes. If you don’t know how to insert a footnote, please see this helpful youtube tutorial.

4) Be sure to write the prompt out fully at the start of your paper. This not only lets me know what you are going to be talking about, but also ensures that you are answering the prompt in its entirety, rather than making up your own prompt after skimming through the list of prompts.
5) Only answer one prompt for this essay. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ANSWER ALL PROMPTS.
6) If you would like feedback on your essays, you must indicate so either at the beginning or end of your paper, preferably the beginning. If you did not receive feedback, it is likely that you did not indicate on your paper.
7) Please do not narrate your research experience in your paper. Rather than say “while researching the topic of ____” or “I found this article which explains ____”, just explain the idea and give the proper credit in a footnote.
8) Do not begin a new paragraph with “Another…” The first sentence in your paragraph should be a bold statement, which is then substantiated through the rest of your paragraph. Try to avoid beginning with a statement that doesn’t really have a strong direct point.
9) There is no need to write “In conclusion…” at the beginning of your conclusion. Your conclusion should be self-evident. Just skip that line and move on to your actual conclusion. Trust me, it will sound much better.
Those tend to be the most common mistakes/issues people have. Before submitting your paper, please read your paper aloud as this changes the way you read, and usually exposes a variety of typographical errors or issues with readability.
Mini Essays: Throughout the semester, you will be responsible for completing short
essays of approximately 500 words (about 2 pages double spaced). For each essay, you
will be given a fairly general prompt for you to base your essay, with the intention that
you will find a more specific thread tailored to your own interests to fit within the theme
of the prompt. I would like you to use at least two different peer reviewed sources to
help substantiate your points. One of the sources should come from one of the assigned
readings, and I would like at least one other source to come from outside our course
texts. There are some great resources out there to help you find appropriate peer
reviewed source material. One place to find some good journal articles is JSTOR
(www.jstor.org). You should have free access to these articles through your schools
account. Of course, there is also the schools library, which contains plenty of books,
journal, etc. to help you with this task as well. I’d like you to avoid using websites, as
often these are not the most reliable and lack peer reviewed status. When providing
these sources, you must use the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS or Chicago Style).Your essays will be graded on the following criteria:
a) evidence that the factual material called for in the question is presented and
documented;
b) coherence of the essay in organization and structure;
c) ability to engage critically and analytically with the topic
d) evidence of creative thinking;
e) correct annotation of sources and presentation of bibliography;
f) correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
If you would like comments and feedback on your papers, you must indicate so at
the beginning of your paper, otherwise you will not receive any.
Please discuss the following prompt:
Although Buddhism is able to change, adapt, and be adopted by other cultures and lifestyles, with all these changes, do you think that the original meaning of Buddhism taught by the Buddha himself can be lost or even die? Does the original meaning even matter if it loses its relevancy?
please remebmer the feedback I sent you2 days ago!
