Miami University Reasons to Legalize Abortion Presentation

If you listen to/read the news, participation in conversations (on-line, at home, or in public places), or study subjects concerned with social dynamics, you are aware that issues of gender and social equity are frequent and still highly controversial.  The history of these debates is often long and complicated.  In WGS 201, we briefly touch on many topics and issues, but we don’t have time to go into depth.  This project is your opportunity to learn more about an area of interest.  You can research a general topic, such as birth control, a person, or a legal change such as Title IX or the 19th amendment. 

Your presentation should be dynamic, engaging, and informative.  Although it will be informed by research, it should not be text heavy.  Be aware of the audience you want to inform.  Your instructor is not the primary audience. Your audience is a person or group of people who you think would benefit from the information you are presenting. 

Content: 

Your presentation should include: 

A clear statement of your topic and why you find it interesting or important.  This overview of the topic should include: How is it relevant today?  Who is affected?  What is the controversy?  Note: If you want to research a historical figure–i.e. Margaret Sanger or Hillary Clinton, describe what issues their lives have illustrated or involved. 

Discussion of course key terms connected to your topic.

Historical context and key people involved in your topic.

Description of the controversial elements.

Laws or regulations important to your issue.    

Technical Details

You need to use academically sound sources and provide internal citation and a works cited.
