Prescription drugs in nursing facilities can prolong life. Many of the elderly patients are put in hospitals or nursing homes due to their chronic illnesses that may require a higher level of care. Many times, this issue could be a reason why patient-nurse ratio is so poor. Being a licensed professional healthcare worker, we need to provide the most adequate safety measurements when caring for older patients or any patient. Working in a Med surg floor in a small rural hospital, many of the patients admitted are either older than 65 years of age or come from a nursing home facility needing higher care. Many of these patients have multiple chronic illnesses causing them and the family stress due to the fact that they are unable to care for themselves. Determining the patient’s level of consciousness and/or mental stability, will determine if they are able to make medical decisions during end of life care. If the patient is alert and orientated to the situation, then this fact would be an example of them being able to make their own decision. However, if the patient cannot make decision base on their condition, then the next of kin or the medical power of attorney will be liable for the decision. Either way, all these documents will need to be filled in the patient’s information during every hospital or nursing home stay.

The rich nations have been supporting for a while to reduce the poverty levels in such situations such as household income, living situations including food and shelter. Rich countries achieve these gains in a way that avoids becoming homeless or sick from starvation. The nation of Israel focuses on widows, orphans, and the poor. Donations were raised very early for these people. Christians are under the nation of Abraham with the same concerns for the poor, orphans, and widows.

The United States has tried to help poor countries with humanitarian aid that can vary from medical supplies to emergency aid in disasters. There are many humanitarian aid workers in the United States who can stand up. However, would you consider the United States of America to be considered rich when they are one of the top countries that have the highest debt rates? Another example can be the structure of slavery. This idea can be identified as the lack of appropriate clothing when looking for a job, lack of medical coverage, paying for education, or the deprived sense of humanity. It is all a battle to be consider a form of poverty, but many rich nations have established ways to bring together opportunities to offer livelihood to citizens of these nations and making them self-sufficient.
