MDM 4U1 Statistics The Three Little Pigs Story Activity

MDM 4U1 Statistics The Three Little Pigs Story Activity

Description

1. Pick a favorite children’s story. It could be a nursery rhyme, a fairy tale, or even a story from a popular movie. For example: “This little piggy went to market …”

2. When numbers are involved in your story or where they can be introduced, create counting questions. For example: The market is 4 blocks east and 5 blocks north of the little piggy’s house. How many different ways can she travel to the market if she only travels east and north, following the streets?

3. Provide solutions within the story to the questions you create.

4. Your story should include at least one permutation question, one combination question and one application of Pascal’s triangle, as explored in the Counting Techniques Unit of the course. Also include aspects of the Probability Unit (Chapter 1, Sections 2.5 & 3.5) to add depth to your assignment.

5. Tell the story with the help of pictures (drawing your own is not a requirement) and text. Provide explanations with your solutions and illustrate with diagrams when appropriate.
