MDC The Variety of Barriers to Evidence Based Practices Discussion

Description

Reply:

Hi all,

There are a variety of barriers to Evidence-Based Practice. Six factors were identified as challenges to EBP adoption: institutional and/or cultural barriers, lack of knowledge, lack of motivation, time management, physician and patient factors, and limited access to up to date, user-friendly technology and computer systems. Tacia, L., Biskupski, K., Pheley, A., & Lehto, R. (2015). As nurses, we can contribute to the promotion of EBP in practice by being up to date on these practices ourselves. EBP refers to using the best available evidence for decision-making and providing efficient and effective care for patients on a scientific basis. Li, S., Cao, M., & Zhu, X. (2019). If we identify someone who may not have access to the necessary technology, identify alternate resources and share them. If we come across literature which is relevant to our setting, print it and post it in the lounge or somewhere easily accessible for others to read. As leaders, staff teaching should be reinforced including the use of EBP in practice and its significance.
