MATH 275 Canada College Ordinary Differentia Equations Worksheet
Description
For this assignment, you will be creating ONE page of notes (front only) summarizing how to solve second order linear homogeneous and non-homogeneous differential equations with constant coefficients. It is preferred that you write out these notes by hand, but if you really really want to type it, you can do so, but make sure you use an equation editor to reflect the mathematical typesetting.
Part 1: The Content (8pts)
Part 1: Homogeneous
- Write out the second order homogeneous DE with constant coefficients and explain the process of solving for these DE’s
[Hint: solution is of some exponential form] - Identify the general quadratic equation and explain the three cases that come about these equation. For each case write out the form of the solution and explain how they came about.
Part 2: Non-Homogeneous
- Write out the second order homogeneous DE with constant coefficients.
- Explain the process (ALGORITHM) for solving a non-homogeneous DE using the Method of Undetermined Coefficients. Give some examples of the forms of the particular solution. Explain its limitations.
- Explain the process (ALGORITHM) for solving a non-homogeneous DE using the Variation of Parameter. Give some examples of the forms of the particular solution.
Submission
Take a picture of your notes and submit this picture for your post.
Part 2: Check what others are doing… (2pts)
Check your classmates notes.
Find TWO notes: (1) Find notes that closely resemble the way you did your notes and (2) find notes that look quite different from yours. Reply and explain why you think your notes are the same or different.
Note that you can’t see other people’s posts until you have posted your own. If you are one of the first few to post, you may have to wait until there are more posts to reply, so that you can do some fair comparisons.
