LIUB Critical Analysis of Theory Discussion

Critical Analysis of Theory:

1. Conduct a literature review and select an article on your chosen topic.
2. Write a summary and critical analysis of a journal article.
3. All papers are due in class at the beginning of class.
4. Each paper should be 6-7 pages long, typed, double spaced, not including a title page.
5. Include a full APA style bibliographic reference and copy of the article.
6. Please cite all outside research.
7. Follow the guidelines below for the critical analysis section:
   1. What is the author’s/authors’ main claim or central argument? What evidence does the author present? Does the evidence support the paper’s thesis?
   2. Are there flaws in the study design? What are the strengths? What are possible counterarguments to the claim?
   3. Is there an inherent bias e.g. research study includes only 4 year college students, only white males, etc. What assumptions does the author make? Are these assumptions valid? Why or why not?
8. What is your opinion based on your education and experience about the claim being made? Does it resonate?
9. Follow the guidelines below for the future research section:
   1. Outside of your article, what does your literature reveal about your topic?
   2. Does your article align with other research in this area? How?
   3. Where is research in this area trending? What direction should it take? Are there unexplored areas/neglected areas that need further research? Why?
   4. Talk about the general trends in this area. What is considered gold standard? Have new advances in technology changed/furthered research design?
   5. What does the research mean? What does it suggest? Why?
   6. How has your research informed your understanding of this topic?
   7. What are the implications for social work practice? For you as a social worker?
   8. CREATE A POWER PIONT WITH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED.
