Literature Question

Literature Question

Description

RL3: collect 4-6 sources from credible magazines and newspaper articles that identify how problems are being solved or advocacy being pushed to contribute to change; this is when you combine your broader knowledge with scholarly/expert knowledge to model appropriate suggestions for actual communities that have stake in your topic; distinguish between opinion pieces in reputable sources and investigative articles

GMU library gives you access to publications like New York Times and Science, which are often blocked by paywalls–use these!

  • It is also very effective to find advocacy groups like NAACP, The Doctors Company, and some union organizations to see what actions and publications they’re putting out to their communities

Each Research Log asks you to develop your understanding of your topic by researching and evaluating relevant sources, then making connections. Logs are completed in two parts:

Update your research goals and record your process/progress (Part I).

Part I will be evaluated for source relevance, consistency, and identification of rhetorical components.

  • Compose a reflection that shows the connections you’re making between sources and how/why you got to this point (Part II).

Part II reflections and analysis are the main components of each Log, as they demonstrate how and why you’re gathering relevant sources for your project
